Oscar Nominations

Anne Hathaway and Tom Sherak announce the Oscar nominees. Am I the only one who found the half hearted applause a little sad for each nominee?

Some good links of the day...

For finding new music, one of my favorite websites is Daytrotter. Through this organization, indie artists record special versions of a few songs and post it onto the website for free downloading. And the best part? It's totally legal! The articles on the artist tend to be fairly interesting as well....Here's one of my favorite sessions The Tallest Man on Earth Daytrotter Session

Obama, in his State of the Union, promised once again to end the policy of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Here, the New York Times covers the issue. Top Defense Officials Seek to End 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.'

Relations with China are threatened yet again--China has warned against "serious consequences" if Obama meets with the Dalai Lama, as he has been hinting at. China says opposes Obama meeting with Dalai Lama.

Blogger James Fallow explores the issue of bipartisanship, and why it's an unreachable ideal. Unfortunately, the Democrat's vying for this unrealistic goal of bipartisanship lead to backroom deals, and a purging of the very ideals behind the Health Care Reform Bill which made it an important issue in the first place. Why bipartisanship can't work: the expert view.

With this year's Oscar nominations out, Time Magazine has put together a list of "Top 10 Oscar Nomination Snubs," covering everything from last year's The Dark Knight to Steven Spielberg and Cary Grant. Hopefully nothing from this year makes it on the list. Top 10 Oscar Nomination Snubs

John Stewart does it again

Personally, I find it a sad statement of the United States that John Stewart is "America's most trusted news source." However, as a comedian I think he is right on the mark--especially on his analysis of Chris Matthews and John McCain. For those who are politically minded, enjoy this clip from hulu.com.

Kelsey Lynn's Art

My friend Kelsey, as part of a project on the human condition, made a series of three pieces that I want to share! Leave a comment if you're interested in seeing more of her work :)

First Posting

Hi, everyone! I set up this blog to share my random thoughts on the news, media, art and general happenings of the day. The title, "postconceived notions," refers to the insights and biases I have formed after hearing the news of the day. The postings will cover everything from my thoughts on the Miss America pageant--how uncomfortable do you think Rush Limbaugh was around all of those gay men?--to new music I want to share. I'll even share my thoughts on facebook trends, such as the new "doppelganger" craze where everyone seems to be changing their facebook photos to those of celebrities who slightly resemble them. Hopefully, this blog will serve as a channel for my random rants that I normally force my friends to listen to...Enjoy!
